How does your firm compare when it comes to how much you spend on compensation vs. revenues? According to this year’s 2016-2017 Holt-MM&K-Buyouts Insider North American PE/VC Compensation Report, buyout and growth equity firms allocate well over half (58 percent) of their revenue to payroll.
European private equity and venture capital funds produced strong returns for members of the Institutional Limited Partnership Association across all time periods. Buyouts, in partnership with Holt Private Equity Consultants and MM&K Ltd conducted its annual Compensation Report. The findings revealed the average time it takes advancing from an MBA degree (or its equivalent in experience) to a partner/managing director is 10.8 years, with the median being 10 years. Over 100 organizations were surveyed.
Middle-market buyout funds are better investments than their bulkier counterparts, according to Cambridge Associates. The average IRR for above-median middle-market vehicles outperform large-market in the five- and 10-year outlooks.
For limited partners, distributions from global buyout firms outpaced draw-downs by nearly $170 million in 20152014, a little less than the nearly $183 million differential the year before, according to PitchBook.
Advent International has the most ambitious target among U.S. buyout and mezzanine firms, seeking $12 billion for its eighth global private equity fund. Altogether, Buyouts counted 289 private equity funds currently in the market. Behind Advent are mega-funds from the usual suspects, including Blackstone Group, KKR and TPG Capital.
