SkinMedica said Monday that it has acquired Colorescience. Financial terms weren't announced. The seller is VMG Partners. Colorscience provides makeup, like eyescreens and primers, to protect against sun damage.
GMH Ventures and Lakewood Capital have recapped Dynamic Healthcare Services. Financial terms weren't announced. Dynamic Healthcare distributes and provides home medical equipment, respiratory therapy products and services. M&T Bank provided debt financing while Bruderman Brothers advised on the deal.
BFG Supply, which is backed by Tricor Pacific Capital, has bought the assets of J.R. Johnson Supply. Financial terms weren't disclosed. J.R. Johnson, of Roseville, Minn., is a distributor serving commercial greenhouses, garden centers, nurseries and landscapers.
There's one day left to go until the New Hampshire primary and Mitt Romney is dominating the news. Romney, who founded Bain Capital in 1984 and is the former governor of Massachusetts, is expected to win easily tomorrow in N.H. With such a large lead, the Bain founder has a bulls eye on his back which makes for some interesting news. First up is The Wall Street Journal, which analyzed 77 businesses that Bain Capital invested in under Romney's tenure from 1984 to early 1999.
New York-based Ares Capital Corp. announced three financing commitments to new portfolio companies in the fourth quarter of 2011, totaling $640 million. The firm served as administrative agent, lead arranger and bookrunner in a senior secured credit facility to support the refinancing of Grocery Outlet Inc. by Berkshire Partners. The firm also acted as administrative agent in a second lien term loan to support the acquisition of Essent Healthcare by Warburg Pincus-backed RegionalCare Hospital Partners Inc. Finally, Ares served as administrative agent, lead arranger and bookrunner in a senior secured credit facility to support the acquisition of WorldStrides by The Carlyle Group.
Investment firm CI Capital Partners has acquired the operations of specialty plastic packaging company IntraPac Group. Terms of the deal were not released. IntraPac is based in Toronto. GE Antares Capital, BMO Capital Markets, Madison Capital Funding LLC and Audax Mezzanine provided financing for the transaction.
Sigma-Aldrich Corp. is paying $350 million in cash to buy biopharmaceutical testing services provider Rockville, Maryland-based BioReliance Holdings Inc. from Avista Capital Partners, Reuters reported Monday. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of this year.
Publicly traded online search company InfoSpace Inc. is paying $287.5 million in cash to acquire online tax preparation software company TaxACT. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2012. Privately held TaxACT is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. TA Associates, the majority shareholder of the TaxACT business, will sell its full holdings as part of this transaction, the company announced.
Private equity shop SK Capital Partners has acquired a 60% stake in the molecular imaging division of Belgian cancer treatment firm Ion Beam Applications, Reuters reported Monday. Ion Beam is expecting to gain over 100 million euros ($127.14 million) after selling the stake.
