23andMe, a genetics information startup founded by Anne Wojcicki and backed by Google, has raised $8.9 million according to a recent regulatory filing.
It is unclear as to whether this financing is a second round or a continuation of the startup’s Series A raised in May.
Google disclosed a $3.9 million investment in the company in May, much of which went to repay a $2.6 million loan Google co-founder Sergey Brin had made the company. Brin and Wojcicki are married.
Genetech, Mohr Davidow Ventures and New Enterprise Associates are also 23andMe backers. The company raised its cash from 22 investors in total.
I’ve contacted the company for clarification on the financing as well as one of the investors but have yet to hear back.
