UK-based VC firm DFJ Espirit said Monday that it has named Gil Dibner as a partner. Previously, Dibner worked at Index Ventures and prior to that, was a principal at Gemini Israel Ventures.
Global growth equity firm Summit Partners said Monday that it has beefed up its senior healthcare investment team. The firm has named Darren Black as managing director for its Boston office and Thomas Tarnowski as a principal in the firm's London office. Previously, Black was a managing partner with SV Life Sciences while Tarnowski led Triton’s Nordic healthcare team.
San Francisco-based VC firm Industry Ventures said Monday that it has named Trevor Rubel and Kunal Jain as a venture partner and associate respectively. Previously, Rubel held several senior positions at Bank of America Merchant Services while Jain served as an investment banking analyst at Moelis and Company.
HGST, a subsidiary of Western Digital Corp., has agreed to acquire Virident Systems for approximately $685 million in cash. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year. RBC Capital Markets served as financial advisor to Western Digital in the transaction while BofA Merrill Lynch advised Virident. Headquartered in Milipitas, Calif., Virident is a computer systems company. It is backed by Intel, Cisco, Seagate, Hercules Technology Growth Capital, Artiman Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Globespan Capital Partners and Mitsui Global Investments.
Groupon said Monday that it has acquired Blink. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Madrid, Blink, which was backed by SoftTechVC, PROfounders Capital and Ballpark Capital, is a last-minute travel app.
DavidBartonGym, which is backed by Praesidian Capital, said Monday that it has named Kevin Kavanaugh as president, effective immediately. Kavanaugh replaces David Barton, who resigned his position recently. DavidBartonGym is a national gym chain.
NYSE Euronext said Monday that it has formed a strategic partnership with ACE. Together the two companies will establish a technology backbone for new issuances of private securities. Also, according to the agreement, NYSE Euronext has purchased a minority ownership stake in ACE. No financial terms were disclosed. NYSE Euronext is a global operator of public financial markets. ACE is a transaction management platform for private placements.
Buyout firm Nova Capital Management has named Richard Lobo as an investment partner for its North American team based in Chicago. Prior to joining Nova, Lobo worked at CHS Capital where he served as a partner and member of CHS' investment committee.
Global private equity firm H.I.G. Capital said Monday that it has acquired a majority stake in Eletromedia. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Brazil, Eletromedia is a provider of out-of-home advertising solutions.
Global financial services firm JPMorgan Chase & Co. said Monday that it will name Linda B. Bammann and Michael A. Neal as directors of the company. Bammann's appointment is expected to be effective on September 16, while Neal will join the board in January 2014. Bammann served as deputy head of risk management at JPMorgan Chase prior to her retirement. Neal, who is currently vice chairman of General Electric Co., served as chairman and CEO of GE Capital.
