New York investment firm Talara has led a $60 million investment in Viola Oil & Gas Holdings. Based in Houston, Texas, Viola is a exploration and production company focused on identifying and developing crude oil resources in the mid-continent.
Encana Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Encana Corp, has agreed to sell certain natural gas assets in Wyoming's Jonah field to TPG Capital for about $1.8 billion. Evercore and Davis Graham & Stubbs advised Encana on this transaction while Vinson & Elkins advised TPG. Headquartered in Calgary, Canada, Encana Corp is a North American energy producer of natural gas, oil and natural gas liquids.
ICON has agreed to buy Aptiv Solutions for a cash consideration of $143.5 million. The sellers are The Halifax Group, SV Life Sciences, Comvest Partners and Aptiv's management. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Aptiv Solutions is a biopharmaceutical and medical device company.
Stamford, Conn.-based private equity firm Newbury Partners has raised over $1.1 billion in the final close of its third fund. According to the firm, the pool will focus on small and mid-sized deals ranging from $1 million to $50 million in size. MVision Private Equity Advisers served as exclusive fundraising advisor for the fund.
Private investment firm Longford Capital has hired William Strong as chairman. The appointment is effective May 1, 2014. Previously, Strong served as a member of Morgan Stanley's global management committee. He was also a co-CEO for its Asia Pacific region and vice chairman of investment banking.
Succession Capital, a subsidiary of Lynx Equity Limited, has acquired United Fastener. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in San Diego, United Fastener is a provider of fasteners and related products to retailers and wholesalers.
Sterigenics, a portfolio company of GTCR, has agreed to acquire Nordion for approximately $727 million. According to the agreement, shareholders will receive a cash consideration of $11.75 per share. Jefferies is advising Nordion on the transaction. Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Nordion is a provider of products and services for the health science sector.
Rovi Corp. has agreed to sell its DivX and MainConcept businesses to Parallax Capital Partners and StepStone Group for up to $75 million. The transaction is expected to be completed by April 1, 2014. Wells Fargo Securities advised Rovi on the transaction.
Sirius Capital Group has agreed to acquire Stratus Technologies for approximately $352 million. Jefferies advised Stratus on the transaction while Wells Fargo Securities and Macquarie Capital are serving as M&A advisors to Siris. Based in Maynard, Mass., Stratus Technologies is a provider of availability solutions.
Prospect Capital Corp. has provided $28.5 million in debt financing to support TZP Group's investment in Global Employment Solutions. Based in Littleton, Colorado, GES is a provider of specialty staffing solutions in North America.
