San Francisco-based FLYR, a travel and data science company, has raised $8 million in Series A funding. Peter Thiel led the round with participation from other investors that included JetBlue Technology Ventures, Streamlined Ventures, AXA Strategic Ventures, Amadeus, Western Technology Investment and Chasm Capital Management. In conjunction with the funding, Phin Upham has been added to FLYR’s board of directors.
Alger Associates has agreed to acquire Boston-based Weatherbie Capital LLC, a specialized growth equity manager. No financial terms were disclosed. The deal is expected to close in early March 2017. Westwood Partners aided Alger on the transaction.
Pleasanton, California-based SmartZip Analytics, a provider of predictive marketing solutions for real estate and related industries, has appointed Scott Baumgartner as its chief financial officer. Previously, he worked at Accela where he served as vice president of finance. SmartZip is backed by Intel Capital, Claremont Creek Ventures, Crest Capital, Javelin Venture Partners, Cue Ball Capital and ORIX Growth Capital.
Tritium Partners LLC has launched a new acquisition platform targeting information and digital service companies. Jason Hogg, former CEO of Blackstone portfolio company B2R Finance, will serve as director and CEO.
Investment bank and asset manager Piper Jaffray Companies has named David D. Olson as vice chairman of the financial institutions group. Olson is the former chairman and CEO of River Branch Holdings LLC.
San Francisco Equity Partners has acquired a majority stake in Missouri-based Red Monkey Foods, an organic spices and seasonings company. No financial terms were disclosed.
Cable One Inc has agreed to acquire Missouri-based cable operator NewWave Communications for $735 million in cash. J.P. Morgan provided financial advice to Cable One on this transaction. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of this year. NewWave is backed by GTCR LLC.
Innotech Capitals, the investment arm of Innotech International Group, has acquired San Diego-based Ad-Juster, an adtech company. No financial terms were disclosed.
BV Investment Partners has made an undisclosed investment in C-4 Analytics. Headquartered in Saugus, Massachusetts, C-4 Analytics is a digital marketing firm. In addition to the funding, BV principal Justin Harrison and Mike Ricciardelli, an operating advisory board member of BV, have been appointed to C-4 Analytics' board.
Comvest Partners has hired Matt Gullen as a partner and member of the firm's investment committee for private equity strategy. Previously, Gullen worked at H.I.G. Capital where he served as a principal on the firm's LBO fund.
