Palladium Equity Partners has made a follow-on investment in Seattle-based health food company Sahale Snacks. Terms of the investment were not released. Palladium has a “significant minority stake” in the company. The firm first invested in Sahale Snacks in 2007.
(Reuters) - U.S. private equity firm General Atlantic said on Friday the sharp depreciation of the Indian rupee and a stock market decline have created a good entry point for private equity investments in the South Asian nation. A combination of slowing growth and widening fiscal and current account deficits is weighing on the Indian rupee. The rupee was the worst performer among Asian currencies last year, losing close to 16 percent against the dollar.
Hulu, the online television streaming service owned by NBCUniversal, News Corp., The Walt Disney Company and Providence Equity Partners, now has 1.5 million paying subscribers for its premium “Hulu Plus” service, according to a blog post by Chief Executive Jason Kilar. That’s a jump from roughly 300,000 paying subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2010. Kilar went on to say that the company grew 60% from 2010 to approximately $420 million in revenue. In spite of Hulu’s advances, Netflix still holds a strong the lead in the online television space, with a reported 23.8 million subscribers.
Reuters reported Friday that buyout firm TPG Capital is willing to invest about $1 billion in Japan's struggling Olympus Corp. in a joint deal with Sony Corp. or another suitor. TPG has informed executives at Sony, Canon Inc., Fujifilm Holdings and Panasonic Corp. of its interest in providing capital and expertise to help revive the maker of medical equipment and cameras, Reuters wrote.
Crystal Financial provided financing to Los Angeles-based buyout firm Gores Group to support its acquisition of Mexx International. The Gores Group bought the mid-market apparel retailer from Liz Claiborne.
Golman Sachs and Cerberus have exited German property company GSW Immobilien, Reuters reported, by placing a 20% stake on Thursday. The firms sold 7.9 million shares at 22.18 euros a share, Goldman Sachs said in a statement on Friday.

TrueBridge Capital Partners has closed its second venture capital and growth equity fund-of-funds, TrueBridge-Kauffman Fellows Endowment Fund II, L.P., with $342 million. TrueBridge, based in Chapel Hill, N.C., is partnered with the Kauffman Fellows Program, an educational non-profit organization. TrueBridge's first fund, CVE Kauffman Fellows Endowment Fund I, closed in August 2008 with more than $310 million.
Aurora Capital Group has added Steven Smith as a partner within Aurora Capital Group. The firm also announced that it has promoted Michael Marino to partner in its Aurora Private Equity group; and promoted Ryan McCarthy to Partner in its Aurora Resurgence group. Aurora is a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.
LIC Housing Finance Ltd., an Indian mortgage lender, is planning to raise 5 billion rupees ($96.5 million) for an urban development fund, Reuters reported Thursday. The state-owned group’s fund will invest in “companies developing affordable housing, industrial and IT parks, special economic zones and other allied segments through equity and equity-related instruments,” Reuters wrote.
